If you want to see the guard in their disctinctive red uniforms, you must come in summer, of course in winter they wear their cozy coats.

The textile collection of the Victoria and Albert museum can't be visited until 2013 becouse they are moving it to another center, but we had plenty of fun anyway

Arch

I had been wanting to make a pair of socks with this technique since I first heard about it

The pattern is arch-shaped socks, modified to make a ribbed leg. I like them, but I don't love them as much as I anticipated, yes, they fit well and are comfortable, but so are straight socks with much less work.

I don't think I will be making many more of these after I finish the pair.

I dyed the yarn some time ago, I did like it when it was in the skein, but I like it better knitted up.
Now, happy new year everyone.

Atashawl

I'm trying to empty the house of yarn and fill my wardrobe with knitted goods. I made this simple triangular shawl with a variation of the stitch pattern used in Balloons with a lovely sport weight yarn I dyed a long time ago.



I'm a real bad photographer.

Repeat

This fall I am into accesories, I haven't knitted a sweater yet (wait! I made a jacket, but I didn't show it to you), mostly gloves, and as there aren't enough patterns around, I repeat myself

The yarn is dk (light sport, actually) from world of wool. 3mm needles. They are oh so comfortable, maybe because the gauge is quite loose and the fabric is rather stretchy, plus the yarn is very soft.

The second picture has more accurate colour.

The most popular beret

This season seems to be the Brambles Beret from Knitty. So I had to make one, turned out ok.

I knitted this one with katia austral, yarn held double. I made the middle version, and feel it's a little short, but I actually made the right desicion as I used all the yarn I had to make this size.

The rose (and the mushroom)

After a (long) summer break I went back to dyeing.

In summer most plants are dry, and there is nothing worth harvesting, but with autumn comes rain and with rain comes life. The new mushroom season has provided a lot of inspiration and new things to try.
The fibre on the following picture I could have dyed anytime because I used an exhaust bath of cochineal wich of course I didn't harvest myself

The fiber on the last picture was dyed with mushrooms, the paler beige is from clitocybe nuda and the darker is from lactarius sanguifluus . I had expected a more exciting result from the first one, violet maybe? But still, it's ok. Before anyone says anything, I have to say that I didn't pick up the delicious lactarius sanguifluus just to dye with them, I only used the stem and rotted parts to make the dyebath, and we ate the actual mushroom.

All mordanted with alum and cream of tartar.
